Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) occur because of problems with the jaw joint. The temporomandibular joint is the hinge joint that connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the temporal bone of the skull, which is immediately in front of the ear on each side of your head. This joint allows the jaw to open wide and move back and forth when you chew, talk or yawn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This disorder involves pain and other issues with the jaw joint. Among jaw pain, ear pain, stiffness, limited mobility and headaches, TMJ disorder can also cause \u201cclicking\u201d sounds in the ears.<\/p>\n\n\n
